Elizabethtown Japanese School Celebrates Milestone

The Elizabethtown Japanese School (EJS) celebrated its 20th anniversary in November, and chose to use the proceeds from an open house to provide a collection of books related to Japanese culture to the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College library. The following books were donated to the library: The Great Festivals of Japan, Japanese Prints (Arts), Bushido (the Warrior's Code), Embracing Defeat (History), Japan Made Easy (Travel), Fun with Origami (7 books).

The Elizabethtown Japanese School also held its annual graduation this year on Saturday, March 15th.. It is customary in Japan to hold a graduation for elementary school, Jr. High School and High School. So, consistent with Japanese tradition, EJS celebrated 6th graders, 9th graders and 12th graders as the three graduating classes. This year, they had five elementary graduates, two Jr. High School graduates, and two High School graduates. Although the 6th and 9th graders will continue at the school, they still participated in the ceremonies.

The Japanese school starts a new school year in April, so on April 5 the EJS held its Entrance Ceremony and welcomed eight new 1st graders and five new students from Japan.
