Employees Win Top Educational Office Awards

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College made history by bringing home the top awards from the annual Kentucky Association of Educational Office Professionals Fall Conference.

ECTC's Dr. Dale Buckles, Dean of Student Affairs, was named the state's administrator of the year and Patricia Walsh, Student Affairs Assistant III in the financial aid office, was named office professional of the year by the KAEOP. The awards were presented in November at the annual fall conference held at Dale Hollow State Park.

Walsh said, "This award is a great honor and I'm very grateful to Hardin County Association of Educational Office Professionals for nominating me. I am very appreciative of my supervisors, co-workers, and friends who have helped me through all these years."

Walsh has worked in different positions within Student Affairs for over 18 years, and currently works in the Financial Aid office. She began her career in Student Affairs when an opening occurred as she completed her training in the business technology area at the college.

Both of the awards have been won by Hardin County school employees in the past; however, this is the first year both awards have gone to ECTC employees. The Hardin County AEOP affiliate nominated both the candidates.

Walsh says one of the best parts of her job has been seeing people enroll, completing their goals to become better educated, and getting jobs in their chosen professions. She finds it rewarding to help students with their financial aid, which is the only way some can afford to attend.

Patricia has served in various areas of HCAEOP and is currently serving as vice president. She is also a member of the National AEOP and serves on committees and other functions at ECTC including the Elizabethtown College Lions Club.

Dr. Buckles has been employed at ECTC for 30 years. He is currently Dean of Student Affairs, and has been a teacher, coach, and counselor. ECTC President/CEO Dr. Thelma White said, "Dr. Buckles' focus continues to be the success of students, ensuring that his staff has the tools, knowledge, and support required to assist students in their college experience."

Dr. Buckles has been instrumental in creating professional development for support staff. He is a strong believer in lifelong learning for all employees, including the support staff and he encourages them to continue their education through classes and professional development activities.
