Kevin & Christina Shank Recital on April 5
 
Elizabethtown Community and Technical College presents a recital of South American music performed by Kevin Shank, classical guitar, and Christina Shank, flute. The recital will take place Sunday, April 5 at 3 p.m. in the Morrison Gallery of the College. Featured composers are Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro, and Augustin Barrios-Mangore. Sponsored by the Fine Arts Committee, the program is free, and the public is invited.

Kevin Shank studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated Cum Laude in 1984. Kevin joined the US Army Band in 1985 and broadened his skills in all areas of performance, including, rock, jazz, and classical guitar. While in the Army Band, he studied classical guitar with Michael Newman at the Mannes College of Music in New York and with Yasunori Kitsukawa while stationed in Japan. He has performed for many dignitaries, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Ambassador Shirley Temple Black, and former President George Bush Senior. Kevin earned his Master of Music degree in guitar performance from the University of Louisville and is now teaching at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.

Christina Shank studied at the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia and spent 22 years in the Army Band. After retiring from the army in 2001, she earned her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Western Kentucky University. She currently works as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at Ft. Knox and is on the board for the Advocacy Support Center of Elizabethtown. She continues to pursue her music through church activities, providing private lessons, and playing for a variety of events with her husband Kevin.
